Improving Onboarding for New Users With Data-Driven Engagement & Retention Strategies in Snapyr
Learn how CollX, a sports card scanner & digital collection community app, used Snapyr to re-engage new users that hadn't used specific app features and continue to engage users as they connect with other collectors in the CollX community.

Overview
Ever wonder if any of your sports cards are worth significant money? CollX makes answering that question easy. The CollX app allows users to snap photos of their cards and instantly see the current market value.
CollX users are adding cards to their digital collection in the app and monitoring the market value of their entire portfolio. Through the app, users can also buy, sell, grade, and trade cards with other collectors, bringing together a community of sports card enthusiasts and collectors to engage with each other.

“Snapyr has been amazing in helping us execute on our user engagement & retention strategies. The campaign blocks are extremely easy to use and we’re excited about building out new retention campaigns in Snapyr as our users continue to grow and and our app features expand.”
Ted Mann, Co-founder and CEO of CollX
Strategy & Goals
The goal for CollX was to create a proper onboarding experience for their new, inactive users and keep them engaged with the community while increasing their daily active users. To do this, they needed to trigger emails to new registrants that hadn’t achieved key milestones, such as scanning a card, or listing a card for sale.
For users that had scanned cards into their portfolio and were starting to interact with other users, they needed data-driven push notifications to alert users of follows and card “likes” as a way to keep users engaged with other users in the community.
Solution
CollX integrated Snapyr into their React native app and started streaming events back to the Snapyr platform.
Within Snapyr, they linked their Postmark account and created multiple “nudge” style emails to encourage new, inactive users to engage with key areas of the app.
Using the no-code Snapyr Block campaign designer, CollX built and ran 4 different emails based on users that had not used a key feature of their app after a specified period of time and delivered an email explaining how to use the feature, all within a single campaign:
Deliver a “How to Scan a Card” email to users that hadn’t scanned a card after 1 day
Deliver a “How to Follow Users” email to users that hadn’t followed anyone after 2 day
Deliver a “How to Search” email to users that hadn’t searched for cards after 3 days
Deliver a “How to List a Card” email to users that hadn’t listed a card for sale after 4 days
Deliver push notifications when other CollX community members engage with each user

Email Campaign Design
CollX is using the green WHEN block to trigger campaigns for users that have registered for the app
The blue “FOR” block tells the campaign to target the user that has registered
In this example, the red “WAIT” block is configured to wait for 1 day after the user has registered for the app
The orange “IF” blocks checks for specific user traits to further segment the target audience - in this case, users that have provided their email address and have not scanned a card
For these users, the yellow “PUBLISH” block is triggering an email that was completely designed by the CollX team in Snapyr’s email designer to teach users how to scan cards in their app
In order to create the remaining emails, CollX simply created additional workflows in the same campaign, copying the same Snapyr block setup into each of those workflows and updating the criteria for the WAIT, IF, and PUBLISH blocks
Within minutes, CollX created 4 different emails to engage their new customers that hadn’t achieved specific milestones to drive further new user engagement with their app
Push Campaign Design
CollX also integrated the Snapyr mobile SDKs to deliver data-driven push notifications on iOS and Android. As users become more engaged with their app, CollX is using separate campaigns to deliver a push notification to users when they have a new follower, new like, and new comment
The green “WHEN” block is triggered whenever a new comment event occurs
The blue “FOR” block tells the campaign to target each user that has received a comment from another CollX user
The yellow “Publish” block sends a push notification to users when another CollX user comments on the user’s card
